With great sadness the family of John Tierney announce his passing with his wife by his side on September 9, 2014 in Haliburton after a brief and courageously fought battle with cancer.

Born February 2, 1956 in Manchester, England. John was a huge sports fan, all sports, Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Argos, but his favourite team was Manchester United.
He spent most of his life playing soccer or coaching all his children in soccer. He played for many teams as a youth and as an adult including Chinguacousy Soccer Club, Bramalea Thistle and Concordia in Kitchener, and coached his children from Brams United to Chinguacousy to Brampton Youth and from Kitchener Soccer Club to many years coaching with Cambridge Youth Soccer.

He loved nothing more than running from soccer field to soccer field coaching or watching his children play.

John spent more than 37 years working for Canadian Tire Corporation in Brampton and in 2013 moved to Haliburton Village where he planned to retire. Unfortunately, life had other plans.

Left behind to miss him deeply are his loving wife Sue (nee Miller), his children, of whom he was so proud, Jean Peet (Jay) of Georgetown, Mat, Shannon, and stepson Keith Vellucci.

He will be missed by his grandchildren Tyler, Branden, Nolan, and Austin Peet.

Also sadly missed by his brother Tom (Sue) of Brampton, Mike (Morag), of Orangeville and his sister Sally Bramwell (Keith) of Wasaga Beach, and his brothers and sisters in law Keith and Andrea Miller, Andrew and Natalie Miller, Steve and Kelly Miller, and Brenda and John McGovern.

He will be missed by many nieces and nephews, and relatives in England.

He will also be missed by Bailie, Cali, and especially his buddy Tucker.

Predeceased by his parents Tom and Lillian Tierney of Brampton and his in-laws James and Peggy Miller, also of Brampton.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and doctors and all the support staff of Haliburton Highlands Health Centre with special thanks to Dr. Kristi Gammon for all her care and support. Thanks also to the caring staff of CCAC and SIRCH.
Also thanks to the staff at Peterborough Regional Health Center and Kingston General
Hospital.

A huge thank you to his friends and co-workers at Canadian Tire, AJ Billes, Airport Road and Brampton locations for all your emails, cards, calls, and visits. Everything you did was greatly appreciated by the whole family.

Because a tremendous amount of money has been donated to cancer research over many years and too many people are still dying of this terrible disease, the family asks that you do not make any donations in John’s memory. Instead, if you wish, please make any donations to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart charity so that more children can enjoy playing sports, as John always felt all kids should have the opportunity to play. Please follow the link to make a donation:

https://secure.ctjumpstart.ca/registrant/tribute.aspx?eventid=18836&langpref=en-CA&Referrer=http%3a%2f%2fjumpstart.canadiantire.ca%2fen%2fwhat-you-can-do%2fmake-a-donation

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will take place at The Brampton Funeral Home & Cemetery, 10061 Chinguacousy Road, in Brampton on Thursday Sept 18 from 5pm to 8pm and on Friday Sept 19 from 1pm to 3pm with a Celebration of John’s life at 3pm. Refreshments will be served.
