Lionel Soares. 28 years old. Born May 12, 1986 passed July 29th 2014.

Son of Lynn and Charmaine Soares, brother of Chantelle Soares and Andrea Cuda and boyfriend of Nicole Brennan. Grandson of Madge Burtles and loving cousin and nephew.

None of us are quite sure how to move forward after a loss like this. For those of you who didn’t know Lionel, here is an attempt to capture his vibrant spirit.

His tough exterior was balanced by the gentle sweetness of his love for his family and friends. Lionel was always unflinchingly honest, never politically correct, and yet always responded to an unfair situation or those who needed him with his whole heart open. He was vital and full of energy, both physically and emotionally a strong man. He was charismatic and could convince you to do just about anything despite your best objections. He was someone who loved to be active, enjoyed working with his hands and felt pride in completing tough strenuous tasks, and who did so daily in his line of work as a Tunneling and Burrowing Contractor. He had many friends as he was easy to love and there was something about him that made you glad to be in his presence. His ready wit always had a sarcastic response ready to make you laugh and he could tell you exactly how many teeth a sting ray had, why the sky was blue, or how flight worked-he was literally a walking encyclopedia of random knowledge. He loved his dog Cocoa, and had a huge soft spot for kids, who gravitated to him. His love for his family was demonstrated often with kisses, hugs and many “I Love You’s”. He was deeply in love with his girlfriend Nicole, and it was obvious to any who watched them together how very much they loved each other. It breaks our hearts that his best years were ahead of him.

We will always miss him, we love him dearly, and his passing will leave a hole in our lives that can never be filled.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our friends and family at this time.
