Passed unexpectedly from a heart attack last Monday evening, December 8, 2014 at the age of 60. He will be dearly missed by friends and surviving family who knew him well for the devoted care he provided to his mother, Estelle, in her declining years, and to the family of cats that he gathered around him in the time since. Like his father, Leonard, who also died suddenly and at home, Gary was in the midst of a busy life shaped by his job, his friends and regular contact with family relatives in Montreal, Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Toronto. His brothers, Lee and Richard, remember him for his easy laugh, his love of animals and for his devotion to his parents. His enjoyment of photography brought forth many striking photographs over the years that are now treasured. Recently he had provided a home for several cats he had found as endangered kittens near railway lands next to his work. With loving care he nursed them into thriving adulthood and their interactions with him and each other are the subject of many of this photographs. His nieces and nephews—Ashley, Courtney, Mark, Stephen and Matthew—knew an uncle who was proud of them and who looked forward to their adventures in school, university and the work world.

Friends can celebrate his life in a Memorial Service to be held at the Brampton Funeral Home & Cemetery, 10061 Chinguacousy Road, Brampton, ON, on Tuesday, December 16 at 4:00 PM. Visitation is from 4:00 until 6:00 PM
